Anita Marie Júlca
2025 Berkeley Youth Poet Laureate
Anita Marie Júlca is a Peruvian-American poet and author based in Berkeley, California, but with roots in Keene, New Hampshire, Queens, New York, and La Roma, Ciudad de México.
She is recognized for her earnest tone and raw imagery surrounding themes of girlhood, sexuality, domestic violence, relationships, and cultural geography.
In April of 2024, Anita Marie released her first book, Whispers of the Storm: A Tale of Healing, a children's book using original illustration and poetry to aid children in healing from trauma. In January of 2025, she was named Berkeley's 2025 Youth Poet Laureate.
Anita Marie has performed alongside acclaimed poets and authors with decades on her, including Edith Friedman, Susan Cohen, Rooja Mohassessy, Dr. Ayodele Nzinga, Aya De Leon, CordonConcepts, and Jazmarie LaTour.
She has, additionally, been invited as a guest-speaker at events of notable public figures including the Swearing-In Ceremony of California State Senator for District 7, Jesse Arreguín, and the Annual Berkeley Mayor's Awards, hosted by City of Berkeley Mayor, Adena Ishi.
